Fundraising Strategist (Account Manager)

Position: Fundraising Strategist (Account Manager)
Type of Role: Full time, remote anywhere in Canada
Reports To: Director of Client Service
Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000 annually

About The Company

BuildGood is a fundraising growth agency. We help nonprofits change the way they find new donors, retain them longer, and grow lifetime value, building a system that creates moments of generosity from first-time giver to legacy leaver.

Our approach is rooted in understanding why people give. Generosity grows when people feel motivated — when giving supports their identity, creates a sense of connection, and makes supporters feel competent and effective in their giving. We design fundraising systems around building donor motivation and leading first-time donors to become lifelong supporters.

We partner with nonprofits across North America to grow durable revenue, from donor acquisition and direct mail to digital fundraising, retention, and mid-level giving. Our work blends brand and direct response.

We’re a growing, research-informed fundraising agency with a clear point of view and big ambitions—and you can help shape what comes next.

Is this job for you?

Do you get excited about fundraising strategy? Are you giddy when you are brainstorming campaigns, digging into donor data, and figuring out what’s going to move people to give?

Do you love getting into the weeds of a client’s history — reading past briefs, campaign results, and donor insights — to form a sharp point of view and insights? Do you show up to

client meetings prepared, confident, and ready to say what you actually think—even when it’s not what the client wants to hear?

And do you want to be the go-to fundraising expert for a roster of clients, while working with a creative and supportive team?

If you’re a problem solver who moves fast, sweats the details, and gets energized by designing fundraising strategies that inspire generosity and drive real results—this job might be for you.

This job is not a good fit if:

  • You need to be told what to do next — and wait until you are
  • You prefer perfection over momentum
  • You avoid making decisions or are afraid of stepping on toes
  • Details slip past you, or you’re okay with that
  • You want every day to be predictable
  • You prefer following a rigid playbook instead of helping build one
  • You see feedback as criticism rather than fuel for growth
  • You don’t enjoy a highly entrepreneurial culture where things evolve quickly

Some Things You Should Know

  • This is a fully remote role
  • Attendance is required at the bi-annual staff retreat (3–4 days)
  • Attendance and on-site participation are required for the BuildGood Summit (approximately 5 working days, including setup)
  • BuildGood team members operate with an owner’s mindset and take full accountability for their work

What We Offer

  • Attendance at the Build Good Summit, Canada’s premiere fundraising conference Work from home/anywhere (fully remote position)
  • 3 weeks vacation (4 weeks after 4 years at BuildGood)
  • Yearly team retreat
  • Summer Fridays (Fridays off in June, July, and/or August)
  • Generous professional development budget
  • Group Retirement Savings Plan (GRSP)
  • Flexible Spending Account (HSA)

Compensation Range

CAD $70,000 – $85,000 annually

What you’ll do

The main job: You’ll be the day-to-day partner and grow the accounts of a portfolio of nonprofit clients by guiding them through a yearly fundraising cycle.

Generally speaking: You’ll be part strategist, part account manager, with a dash of guiding clients through the project processes at BuildGood. You will coordinate complex workflows across creative, data, production, and digital teams to ensure fundraising programs are produced accurately, on time, and at a consistently high standard. You’ll be accountable to your clients, as well as the BuildGood team. Most of your clients will be medium-sized to large organizations, with significant potential to grow their revenue.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Create a yearly growth plan with each of your clients
  • Lead bi-weekly strategy meetings with each of your clients
  • Send a weekly update emails to your clients
  • Be your client’s first point of contact at BuildGood
  • Become an expert on your client and their vertical by reviewing client notebooks, past briefs and campaigns, other relevant materials, and their competitors
  • For each campaign, create the strategic brief, liaise with a copywriter and designer to craft the creative, and manage client approvals
  • Identify A/B tests we can run and publish to foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning
  • Assist with the sales process for new clients
  • Lead onboarding for clients assigned to you
  • Update the project plan in Teamwork as needed, in collaboration with the Project Manager
  • Work with the client to get the data and work with a Data Analyst to prepare lists and analyze results
  • Identify key upsell opportunities for each client throughout the year to grow their revenue and grow the account
  • Support contract renewals for each client
  • Contribute to BuildGood’s public profile through blogs, case studies, webinars, or LinkedIn — sharing your thinking to advance BuildGood’s point of view and give back to the nonprofit and fundraising sector
  • Take part in client visits, which requires approximately 1–3 weeks of travel per year

An important note: Since BuildGood is very much a startup, the exact job description might change over time and depending on the season. The main thing is: you will help nonprofits fundraise effectively in one way or another, and you will help improve and grow the business as part of a team effort.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in the nonprofit/fundraising realm, or similar
  • Proven track record managing multiple client accounts or complex fundraising programs
  • A deep understanding of direct-response fundraising – and the ability to call out & coach others to get to great fundraising
  • Experience running integrated fundraising campaigns (direct mail, digital, email, etc.) Comfortable working with data, like pulling insights from campaign results and translating them into strategy
  • Excellent communicator: you’re clear, concise, and confident with clients and internal teams alike
  • Highly detail-oriented. You catch the things others miss and take pride in work that’s thorough and well-executed
  • An innate bias for action: you produce something fast, learn from it, and improve
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and project management tools (we use Teamwork)

Ways You’ll Work

  • Operate with a high level of autonomy and ownership — you’re trusted to lead your accounts
  • Collaborate closely with copywriters, designers, data analysts, and project managers
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and public knowledge-sharing
  • Showing up for clients and colleagues as someone who’s prepared, direct, and genuinely invested
  • You will report to the Client Service Seat

Requirements

  • Canadian resident with legal status to work in Canada
  • Must be willing to work during standard business hours in CST timezone
  • Access to your own computer, reliable internet and a phone is essential
